The new Buick badge

The instantly recognizable three-badge design of the Buick logo is getting a new look for 2023. Beginning with the 2024 Buick Encore GX, this streamlined logo will appear on every new Buick SUV, marking a new stage in the company’s evolution.

Early Logos

The first Buick logo didn’t last long—just a single year. The complex drawing, featuring a man pulling a motor across a stylized globe, was typical for its time but lacked the immediate appeal of later logos.

By 1905, Buick had replaced it with a new logo, a simple badge with the brand’s name in text. After several more experiments, the earliest version of the modern badge appeared in 1937, being refined throughout the company’s history.

The Triple Badge

The modern triple-badge Buick logo most of us know best emerged in 1959, with the red, white, and blue colors representing the three Buick models available. This modern design reflects the Scottish coat of arms used by Buick founder and namesake David Dunbar Buick, representing the storied history of this legendary American company.

The New Logo

The new version of the classic design is the first significant change to the logo since 1990, setting the tone for its future. The shields have been repositioned and redrawn for a more modern, dynamic look. This new design first appeared on the Buick Wildcat EV concept car and entered production with the 2024 Buick Encore GX. It will be featured on all new Buick models from now on.
