Summer may be coming to a close, but hot days are not behind us yet. At Rick Weaver Buick GMC, we know how dangerous leaving these things in your new Buick SUV can be, risking harm and damage.

Children

Leaving children in a car on a hot day, even for a quick errand, is always a dangerous mistake to make. Closed cars can quickly heat up in the summer sun, reaching three-digit temperatures, leaving anyone stuck inside at risk of heatstroke or dehydration. Make sure you plan ahead and only bring children on errands where they can join you rather than risk serious harm.

Pets

Pets are just as susceptible to heatstroke and dehydration as kids and can quickly get overheated in closed cars. Leaving a window open is not an acceptable substitute since a small crack may not lower the temperature enough, and too much freedom risks your pet making a break for it. Like with children, plan out your errands so your furry friends can be cared for at home.

Electronics

Electronics don’t deal with the heat of a closed car very well, either. Heat can damage essential parts, like cameras, screens, and even internal electronics. In addition, heated batteries can explode, causing even more damage both to your electronics and your interior. If you have to leave electronics behind, make sure they’re out of direct sunlight.
